Dechenphu Lhakhang.

 

Dechenphu Lhakhang is the scared home of Geynyen Jagpa Melen, the protective deity of Our country. Among numerous Lhakhang built in within Thimphu, Dechenphu Lhakhang is one of the most visited monastery in Bhutan.

Dechenphu lhakhang is not only a sacred place but also the most important place of the protector deity for the followers of Drukpa Kargyu. The Dechenphu lhakhang was especially dedicated to Geynyen Jagpa Melen from a very long time ago.

Besides the Neykhang at Dechenphu, there are seven Neykhangs of Geynyen: Samye Chinphu, Tisi in Joe Ngari, Puri in Tsari Kongpo, Dueyul Khura Gogu, Monyul Dungla Kar, Tsenyon Zangthang Marpo and Drug Ralung. But Dechenphu is the only one with such an old and well structured lhakhang. Phajo Drugom's son Dampa constructed the Dechenphu lhakhang and became the first chief abbot.
